The core gameplay revolves around character progression, achieved by hunting specific enemies and gathering rare crafting components to enhance your strength and that of your companions.

Wayfinder offers a diverse range of environments, including expansive open world areas, intricate dungeons, and bustling social spaces capable of accommodating large gatherings of players.

Social Spaces (Towns)

One such social hub is Skylight, the current town within Wayfinder. In Skylight, adventurers can accept quests, access the gloomsphere—a vital travel nexus—and engage in crafting endeavors to forge powerful weapons and items.

The gloomsphere, conveniently located in Skylight, grants immediate access to the Lost Zones for expeditions and hunts.

While exploring the open world, you may stumble upon additional expedition locations, providing alternative entry points accessible through the gloomsphere in Skylight.

Within the gloomsphere, you will find recommended power ratings for specific expeditions and hunts, enabling you to gauge their difficulty. Furthermore, you can apply imbuements, introducing additional mutators that shape the challenges within each instance.

Open World

Step into the expansive open world of Wayfinder, where you'll encounter a bustling community of fellow players engaged in diverse activities. Witness adventurers bravely battling fearsome monsters, accomplishing challenging quests, confronting formidable world bosses, unearthing hidden landmarks, partaking in thrilling public events, and uncovering entrances to the mysterious Lost Zones.

Each open world zone offers a tapestry of distinct areas, each teeming with its own array of monsters, valuable loot, and captivating points of interest. Delve into these varied regions, each presenting unique challenges and rewarding experiences tailored to your level and playstyle.

During the beta phase, two breathtaking open world zones have been unveiled, with additional zones anticipated on the horizon. Prepare to immerse yourself in a living, ever-expanding realm."

Lost Zones

Embark on thrilling adventures within the Lost Zones of Wayfinder, immersive instanced dungeons that deliver boundless challenges. These dynamic realms are procedurally generated, ensuring endless variety and excitement. To access these captivating realms, make your way to the gloomsphere in Skylight or seek out their entrances within the vast open world. Once you've uncovered a new location, it remains unlocked, granting you convenient access from the town's gloomsphere.

Within the Lost Zones, you'll encounter two distinct types of challenges: expeditions and hunts. Expeditions immerse you in procedurally generated dungeons, teeming with enemies to defeat and secrets to unravel. Thorough exploration and vanquishing all foes yield abundant rewards, ranging from echoes and wayfinder parts to gold, weapon components, and precious crafting ingredients.

Hunts, on the other hand, offer intense boss battles. Simply make your way to the designated arena and plunge into the exhilarating fight. No need to scour the area—your focus lies solely on confronting these formidable adversaries.

Both expeditions and hunts grant access to a variety of loot, enriching your journey with echoes, wayfinder parts, gold, weapon components, crafting ingredients, and more."

Player Housing & Progression

Player housing in Wayfinder takes the form of apartments, offering more than just a social space. These dwellings play a crucial role in your core gameplay experience, serving as a secondary 'paper doll' where you can enhance and upgrade your power.

In Wayfinder, progression is achieved through various means. You will level up your Wayfinders, upgrade your weapons, apply echoes to augment their abilities, and utilize affinities to amplify the strength of your equipped items.

Defeating monsters and completing quests rewards you with experience, which contributes to the advancement of your active Wayfinder. Accumulating enough experience allows your chosen Wayfinder to level up, increasing your power rating and unlocking additional echo slots.

Each weapon in Wayfinder possesses its own level. Similar to leveling up your Wayfinder, you can advance your weapons. For instance, while playing as a level 30 Wingrave, you can wield a level 2 sword and shield. Through combat encounters, your sword and shield will independently level up, regardless of your currently equipped Wayfinder or other weapons.

As you enhance your weapon's level, it grows more formidable, and you unlock additional echo slots specific to that item.

Weapons

The following weapons have been spotted in beta gameplay:

Weapons play a vital role in Wayfinder, offering diverse combat options to players. During beta gameplay, the following weapons have been observed:

● Sword and Shield
● 2-Handed Sword
● 2-Handed Axe
● 2-Handed Mace
● 2-Handed Scythe
● Dual Wield Daggers
● Rifle
● Railgun
● Shotgun
● Crossbow

In Wayfinder, as you progress and level up, you earn Affinity points. These points can be allocated to enhance one of three different affinities: Instinct, Discipline, and Focus. By increasing your chosen affinity, you activate a bonus multiplier that boosts the associated stats of your currently equipped weapon and accessories.

For instance, let's say you possess an accessory with attributes linked to the Instinct Affinity. By investing in the Instinct Affinity, you amplify the power of that accessory, as its attributes are aligned with the Instinct Affinity."

Affinity System

In Wayfinder, the Affinity system plays a crucial role in enhancing your character's power. Through the acquisition of Echoes, which can be obtained by defeating monsters and looting, you can customize and augment your Wayfinder, weapons, and accessories with specific attributes and bonuses. Each slot has a designated Echo type (A, B, C, D, E), and utilizing Echoes of the same type reduces the cost, allowing for more efficient customization.

Echoes come in various rarities and possess predetermined attributes or bonuses. By combining excess Echoes, you can enhance the power of a chosen Echo. Fusion mechanics enable you to rank up Echoes by merging lower-quality Echoes, further maximizing their potential.

PvP:

Wayfinder primarily focuses on PvE gameplay, although PvP has not been completely ruled out.

The developers have expressed openness to implementing PvP in the future, ensuring it is carefully designed and integrated, rather than being an afterthought.

Group/Solo Play:

While solo play is possible in Wayfinder, tackling the game's more challenging content may require the assistance of friends. Group play is emphasized, with a group size of 3 players. This decision was made to enhance readability, considering the game's camera perspective, which resembles a 3rd person action game rather than a traditional MMO. A smaller group size ensures clear roles for each player during cooperative adventures. It is conceivable that the group size may be expanded for specific end-game content in the future.

Seasons

Wayfinder introduces exciting seasons to deliver immersive storytelling, themed characters, new cosmetics, events, and more. Season 1, titled "Gloom Break," is set to launch with early access in May 2023. Each season is expected to last approximately 3 months, with regular releases of fresh content. The arrival of a new season will be accompanied by a cinematic featuring a new Wayfinder, which will be showcased on the Wayfinder YouTube channel. The game and its external platforms will offer additional information about Wayfinders and their lore.

Battlepass

Every new season in Wayfinder will feature a battlepass, ensuring an engaging progression system. Notably, each battlepass will include the newly introduced Wayfinder, eliminating the need for players to choose between purchasing the battlepass or the new character.

Furthermore, the battlepass will never expire once purchased within the corresponding season. Players can progress through the battlepass at their own pace, retaining the ability to explore and unlock its rewards indefinitely. The flexible nature of the battlepass allows players to activate it whenever desired, enabling them to work towards its completion according to their preferred timeline.

The battlepass interface is designed as a captivating mini board game. Instead of traditional leveling, players will earn keys as they make progress. Each key unlocks a node on the board, and players must navigate through the nodes to collect the associated rewards. The number of nodes per battlepass may vary based on the season's theme, but players can expect approximately 100 nodes in each Wayfinder battlepass.

Adventure elements are incorporated into the battlepass system as well. For instance, players may encounter switches adjacent to unlocked nodes, unveiling new paths or even revealing secrets, adding an exciting dimension to the progression experience.
